Alicia and Matt have been together since high school and have decided to finally tie the knot! They are getting married in Hawaii this summer and contacted us to take some engagement pictures of the two of them around the University of Oregon Campus where Alicia spends most of her time. I think it was a great choice of location and we really lucked out on the weather. It was an incredible day! We had so much fun hanging out with them all day and they were even sweet enough to share their picnic with us.

The very first time I ever photographed Austin & Amanda they were performing alongside the Phoinix Players in the Annual Junction City Christmas Parade in December of 2010. They passed on by dancing with red santa hats along with the rest of the troupe and a small parade float. I enjoyed the charisma of group and when I found out that they would be performing at a Junction City business luncheon we went along. It took us a few months before we actually went to the Star Theatre to see a performance of  ”The Sunshine Honky Tonk”. After the performance we were hooked! I recall thinking to myself that these two could get married someday and when they do we will be photographing their wedding. Well that came true yesterday! Austin Lawrence and Amanda Bauer married at the Pleasant Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church at 6:30pm Saturday. A reception at the church followed along with another reception at the Valley River Inn! We wanted to  share a sneak peek of yesterday’s fabulous wedding & celebration!!!

On the last day of our whirl wind Portland trip we photographed Krystle & Nick’s engagement session. They are getting married at Sweet Cheeks Winery on September 2nd and we are so excited! They live in Seattle and are getting married in Eugene so we thought Portland would be a great place to meet in the middle. Krystle & Nick used to live in Portland and they took us to some of their favorite spots around town. We started the day at Waterfront Park in the Japanese Memorial area under the blooming Cherry trees. Krystle and I both have a soft spot for cherry trees, and have always missed photographing them when they are in bloom. Somehow we lucked out this time and timed the shoot perfectly. The blossoms were amazing!

Meghan & Jon got married in a cute little white church in Warren, Oregon. The very same little white church that Jon’s grandparents got married in back in 1954. Thats almost 58 years ago!

We started off the day at Bethany Lutheran Church in Warren, OR then moved to the reception which was held at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse & Imbrie Hall in Hillsboro, OR just outside of Portland. They rented the Octagonal Barn for the festivities which was the perfect setting for Meghan & Jon.

Meghan went through a ton of work to make it so beautiful. She made the centerpieces for each table out of wine bottles that she cut the tops off, put candles in them, then etched each and every one of them by hand. She also made delicious sugar cookies for each place setting.  (So crafty!) It was so amazing to see all the little touches that she made for their day.

We had quite an amazing weekend and are still recovering from all of the fun we had! Emily & Colin got married at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Oregon on Friday the 23rd. We have been waiting for their wedding for months! Russell and I are HUGE fans of McMenamins properties. They salvage old buildings and materials and create unique and fun environment. Edgefield is our favorite property that we have been to yet. It has everything a person could want. Little bars, a theater, a salt water soaking pool ( it is AMAZING!) a spa and so much more! They also have rooms so all of your family can stay and enjoy the festivities. Most of Emily’s family flew all the way from New York (where Emily grew up) to spend the weekend with them. They both have such amazing families! Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your wedding!

We had an amazing weekend!!! Two wonderful weddings, one rehearsal dinner, and a fantastic & creative engagement session. We arrived in Portland on Thursday night at McMenamins Edgefield to meet Colin & Emily’s family and friends for the rehearsal dinner at the Power Station Pub. Friday’s wedding with Emily & Colin was beautiful at Blackberry Hall. Saturday we headed towards Warren, Oregon for Meghan & Jon’s wedding at Bethany Lutheran Church with the reception at McMenamins Roadhouse and Cornelius Pass. Then Sunday we met with Krystle & Nick for their Portland Engagement Session. We just arrived home from being in Portland and we are so excited to go through and present all the stories. We will blog more tomorrow! But for now a preview of  what we have been doing and looking forward to for months!

So some of you may know we moved recently to Springfield from Junction City. Our first month here and we couldn’t be happier. It seems that this community is really working hard to support local business and improve the downtown community. Last night we walked around downtown and noticed that is was “Second Friday Art Walk” the event brings together local business and art in a way that draws respectable crowds to the local community. Lot’s of enthusiasm. We were handed a flyer about Sprout!, First Annual Stalk Holder Celebration. A tour of the Future home of Sprout! at 418 A Street a historic down town church. Jayme was really excited about the idea of having a farmers market just a block away from where we live. We showed up just as the Oregon Tuba Ensemble was finishing up, we wish we had arrived earlier to hear them. The place was packed and people seemed really excited to be there and that we were there too. Jayme and I were both carrying our cameras but nothing else, no flash or camera bag, but this nice lady came up to me three different times to ask if I was with the Register Guard. Each time I was like nope, but I know someone there.

The building was beautiful but dark. The ambient light was not going to get me any pleasing photos. So I left Jayme to sample all the food, and check out the art. I walked home grabbed a single speed light (flash) and a manual trigger (a device that talks to the flash when not on the camera) and came back. I had visions of using the beautiful stained glass windows as a really cool light modifier. When I returned I sweet talked Jayme into holding the flash outside the church windows and created this and the following shot. I was pretty excited about them! They were different. Different than anything anyone else was going to create with an on camera flash. I know I have to work fast because Jayme doesn’t have a lot of patience for staring at a brick wall, outside in the cold, and looking like a total dork to passer by. I gotta admit that I am a lucky man.

The first two photographs feature Artist & art student, at the Academy of Arts and Academics Tianna Kelton painting and some of the activity taking place around her. Then I had technical difficulty my battery on the manual flash trigger died, which as it goes is no big deal since this is all just for fun and I was sure that Jayme would be happier inside.  I had a back up battery it just wasn’t with me.

So I went home and download the few images I had shot and actually printed one for Tianna and gave it to her when I returned. She was like wow! You are so fast! I brought a second flash this time and two really small stands, talked my way up into the balcony and set up the flashes. By this time live music was being performed by Samba Ja. They were really fun. Jayme gave me some ear plugs to put in since my hearing sucks enough already!

Sprout! is a regional community food hub project that brings together facilities for production, retailing and food-business development. The project goal is to increase local food consumption by 1% to keep money circulating in Lane County’s economy. The strategy Sprout! uses helps to fill holes in the local food production and retailing supply chain while also strengthening food businesses and preparing a competent workforce to contribute the the important food business cluster in the region.

This project is located in downtown Springfield in a historic church building, and is easily accessible from all corners of Lane County. Sprout! will be a draw for producers, vendors, and customers of all incomes from throughout the county. The project will increase production and consumption of local food, which will strengthen Lane County’s community food security, economic and environmental sustainability, and create a place for food industry workers and business owners to develop valuable skills.

Thurston High School Vocal Music Department Presented its annual 2012 Spring Choral Concert in the THS auditorium this evening at 7:30. Choral Director Mark Huisenga along with accompaniest Mary Conner lead three choral groups in performances. Photos don’t really do any justice to the art of singing you would just have to have been there to hear them perform live. In case you were here are a few photos from tonight’s concert’s from Choral, A Cappella Choir and High Energy. Certain members of the Choir will be leaving for New York this Wednesday. “Bon Voyage”
