Those that know Daniel, know that we are not the first to call him and the company he keeps Bad Ass! We just know a good thing when we see it! Daniel brought it to his senior session. We just showed up! Daniel knew without a shadow of a doubt that we would capture him the way he wanted to be photographed. If it was any more epic our flashes would of blown up and our cameras melted! ;D Super fun! Thanks Daniel for choosing us!

Saturday Happenings

We had an amazing Saturday, we met with two wonderful couples planning their summer weddings. We talked over coffee and learned about their exciting wedding day plans. We were really happy to be choosen on the spot by one of the couples. We are honored to be chosen as their personal visual story tellers on their wedding day. After our second meeting we were a little hungry and discovered a great spot for Sushi. Sushi Ya next to Cafe Perugino. We had never been to Sushi Ya together. They had a great happy hour on food! We say go!

Jayme and I had a wonderful Saturday evening. We were invited by Nita & David Loveall to attend their start up church. Three Sixteen Ministries. It was an inspired evening, David (the pastor) was really easy to understand and relate to. They meet at 6:30pm on Saturday’s at 900 Robin Hood Ave in Eugene. We loved that David used a photography analogy in his talk. “F8 and be there” about how God can use you positively if you just show up! After church we went to Cozmic Pizza to hear and see our friend Keeley St. Clair sing in the band Pig’s On The Wing! A Pink Floyd Cover Band! Keeley has an amazing voice! Jayme always carries a camera in her “Kelly Moore Bag” so we shot a few photos. So that was our Saturday, we made the beginnings of new friendships, discovered a great spot for Sushi, enjoyed & worshipped at Three Sixteen Ministries and listened to our friend Keeley belt out some amazing vocals in the Pink Floyd Tribute Band Pig’s On The Wing.

Bridal Fashion Show Oregon Wedding Showcase

Jayme and I had a wonderful day today at the Oregon Wedding Showcase. We are looking forward to meeting with all the brides & a few grooms that expressed interest in knowing more about us in the coming weeks. Two consultations tomorrow and lot’s of following up to do. Jayme let me sneak out of the booth during the fashion show to photograph a few images. These two images stood out. I love the dresses and the way the models look in them. What do you think? We have had the pleasure of knowing Jackie and Jason Cowsill for a few years now and we were so excited when they told us they were in the studio recording original music for their band Troupe Carnivale. Jackie Jae & Jason Cowsill’s original alt-country cabaret band. Debut album recording right now… stay tuned for the spring 2012 release! They are recording at Gung-Ho Studio in Eugene, Oregon with producer Billy Barnett. Photography for musicians is something we love doing. We are visual story tellers and we enjoy documenting artistic process. What sets us apart from some band or music photographers is that what we enjoy most is photographing the actual work of making music, be it in the recording studio, rehearsing, or performing. We work around the processes and allow what we photograph to happen naturally. We do add or subtract light, and for us that is part of our visual story telling art. So when we finish a set of images it is capturing what actually happened not just some fancy posed portrait, which I enjoy but it’s not our specialty. When not photographing weddings and engagements we love working on projects like this and we were so happy that Jackie contacted and hired us to do the job. Variety is the spice of life! Joshua & Rachel

Joshua & Rachel Rainey are wonderful husband & wife wedding photographers located right in Springfield. More importantly they are really nice people. We met for coffee on Tuesday at Perugino. After coffee and a morning bun we went outside to create a few images of the expecting parents. They are having a boy! I know that Josh loves fly fishing, I bet there is a mini rod & reel tucked away somewhere! Rachel looks so beautiful!

A Christmas Show

It has been one year since we first saw the Phoinix Players perform in Christmas Parade in Junction City, Oregon. Since that time many friendships have been made and performances, rehearsals, and surprise engagements have been photographed. I (Russell) would have to say that what impresses me most about this group is their willingness to work hard no matter the circumstances and their ability to work together. The Phoinix Players have been without a place to call home for about 5 months now. That is a different story and good things are in motion! Regardless I watched this group come together to practice for this performance in cramped classrooms and living room floors. It didn’t matter the circumstances. They worked together to put together a small and wonderful show for the residents of Valley West Health Care Center. Seeing the residents eagerly wait outside the dining hall for the performance. It probably was a highlight of the month or maybe even the year for the residents. It really moved me. My friends really are amazing!

Troupe Carnivale Recording At Gung-Ho Studio

Jackie & Jason Cowsill are currently in the process of recording original music for their band Troupe Carnivale at Gung-Ho Studio in Eugene Oregon. Producer and Engineer Billy Barnett is engineering the analog recordings. They are accompanied by Whitney Moulton on bass and Don Elkington on Drums/Percussion/Wood Fish… Billy Barnett is also adding original sounds by using mallets on piano springs and playing a twelve string guitar. I am a visual guy I can not speak their language I just enjoy the music. They hired us to come by the studio and capture the process visually. It has been a lot of fun! It was our first time in a recording studio. I thought we had a lot of equipment lol. I really enjoy photographing people that work hard at their craft. Definitely an awesome weekend. We can’t wait to do it again! The visual wheels are a turning and I have photographic ideas I want to try. Gung Ho Studio has soul! It’s the place where music is born! You can just close your eyes and sit in the sound booth and imagine all the incredible artists & musicians that have recorded here. Billy Barnett was such a joy to watch working his craft, and of course we have much love for Jackie and Jason! But they know that already. -Russell: I have heard that Billy Barnett is your best choice for recording unless maybe you want to travel to LA. Watching him perform his craft was marvelous & impressive!

I lit this photo of Jason Cowsill with two lights the light behind was gelled for ambiance.

Jackie Cowsill recorded her original music inside Billy's house. I guess that doesn't happen often. Billy had to be finished recording before his wife got home.

I used a single off camera light source to photograph these images of Billy at work/play on piano using small mallets directly on the piano strings.

Pleasant Hill Oregon Wedding Rehearsal

This being December we are almost caught up. We have three custom made wedding albums being handmade and hopefully finished by Christmas. This gives us a little time to take a look at some our creative work that get’s pushed aside for the actual wedding day photography we must cull & edit and deliver. Just a little back story. Boo & Dennis married on a beautiful day in June. We were invited by the soon to be newlyweds to attend the rehearsal & dinner. We were excited and a little nervous. Boo’s Mom is a professional photographer herself. It was going to be the first time we met Dennis and we hadn’t seen Boo since meeting her in January at the wedding show. It was also our first time out to see the place they would be married. A friend of the family a private residence out near Jasper. We were so excited the place was incredible. There was a wonderful shaded area for the ceremony and a beautiful open barn for the reception and dancing. My nervousness melted away as we met family & friends. Their warmth and hospitality was very welcoming. Rehearsals are usually so much fun as everyone is usually more relaxed than on the wedding day. I guess I am letting the cat out of the bag as far as our Christmas present for Boo & Dennis. We gave them a few photos from the rehearsal on the wedding day, but only a few prints. They will be receiving a quite a few more. There are a lot of photos here, but we have a few more we know they will like also .
